JTR (Santorini / Thira) — 1-stop min via Athens (no US nonstop to JTR) (No nonstop US→Santorini. Fly US→Athens (ATH) — several seasonal summer nonstops (Delta/United/American/Emirates from JFK, EWR, ORD, PHL, IAD; a few year-round) ~9–10h — then ATH→JTR 45-min flight or a 5h high-speed ferry from Piraeus.)
Transfer: ~10–25 min (Fira ~10 min, Oia ~25 min from JTR) by taxi / private transfer / bus · taxi ~€20–35; local buses cheap

caldera towns (Oia, Fira, Imerovigli) are cliffs of narrow stepped lanes with sheer drops and few railings; Kamari & Perissa beach towns are flat · stroller/wheelchair: caldera near-inaccessible; beach towns OK. A cable car (funicular) runs Fira–Old Port; donkey rides up the cliff exist but raise animal-welfare concerns — take the cable car
tap water: not recommended for drinking — mostly desalinated with an unpleasant taste; locals drink bottled. Fine for brushing teeth, washing and cooking · altitude risk: none · uv heat: high summer UV; black-sand beaches (Kamari/Perissa/Perivolos) can exceed 60°C surface midday — wear water shoes · water safety: Aegean generally swimmable but can be cool and wind-chopped in meltemi; some beaches have sudden drop-offs and boat traffic — swim in organized/lifeguarded zones
