Ibiza
The Balearics' nightlife capital
I AM THE WANDERER

Ibiza

Balearic Islands (Ibiza Town, San Antonio, Santa Eulària)

The Balearics' nightlife capital — superclub openings, sunset strips and a deep bench of private-pool villas, at its buzziest (and priciest) in August and its calmest in the sun-warm shoulder months.

peak shoulder — the sweet spot low (open) off (closures)

Best overall

Jun & Sep — warm sea, full club season running, lighter crowds and better prices than the Jul–Aug apex (September has the warmest sea of the year)

Shoulder

May–Jun and Sep–early Oct; clubs open ~late Apr and close mid-Sep–mid-Oct, so Nov–Apr the party island largely hibernates

Peak

Jul–Aug, apex all-August (hottest, busiest, priciest; marquee weekends draw ~30,000 clubbers)

Weather

Mediterranean — hot dry summers (Jul–Aug daytime HIGHS ~30°C/86°F), mild damp winters (Jan ~15°C/59°F highs). Sea swimmable ~Jun–Oct. Little summer rain; autumn (Oct–Nov) is the wettest. Highs 59–86°F. Rain: low May–Sep; wettest Oct–Dec.

Getting there & entry

IBZ (Ibiza)1-stop min via Madrid or Barcelona (no US nonstop to IBZ) (No nonstop US→Ibiza. Fly US→Madrid (MAD) or Barcelona (BCN) — nonstops on Iberia/American/Delta/United/Level from JFK, EWR, MIA, ORD, BOS, LAX, DFW ~7–8h — then a ~1h hop to IBZ (Vueling/Iberia/Ryanair, very frequent, often €15–40). Madrid is favored for fast connections and through-checked bags.)

Transfer: ~10–30 min (Ibiza Town ~10, San Antonio ~20, Santa Eulària ~25) by taxi / private transfer / rental car · taxi ~€20–35; buses cheap

Entry (US): Schengen visa-free 90 days; ETIAS authorization expected ~late 2026 / mandatory 2027

Villa + club-town prices spike hard in peak August; rural fincas and shoulder months are far cheaper. Airfare is a cheap ~1h hop on top of a moderate US→Madrid/Barcelona fare

Access & safety

small island; resort towns and beach-club strips are fairly flat, but Ibiza Town's old town (Dalt Vila) is a steep cobbled hill and many coves are rocky · stroller/wheelchair: resort areas generally OK; Dalt Vila and rocky coves less so

tap water: meets EU standards and safe short-term, but desalinated and salty-tasting — most residents and visitors drink bottled/refillable; fine for teeth, showering and cooking · altitude risk: none · uv heat: high summer UV · water safety: generally calm, warm Med water; occasional jellyfish blooms (Pelagia) possible — check local beach flags
