Mediterranean, southern-hemisphere seasons. Summer (Dec–Feb) hot and dry, highs ~79–82°F, but the SE 'Cape Doctor' wind howls (windiest Dec–Jan). Winter (Jun–Aug) cool and wet, highs ~63°F, June the rainiest month. Highs 63–82°F. Rain: high Jun–Aug (winter wet season); dry Nov–Mar.
Getting there & entry
CPT (Cape Town International) — nonstop (EWR year-round; ATL seasonal) / 1-stop rest (United nonstop EWR–CPT (~15h, year-round, few weekly) and Delta nonstop ATL–CPT (~15–16h, seasonal Oct–Mar). Everyone else connects via Johannesburg (JNB) or a Europe/Gulf hub (Doha, Dubai, Istanbul, Amsterdam).)
Transfer: ~20–30 min to the city/Camps Bay/Atlantic Seaboard by car rental (recommended — the region is spread out), private transfer or Uber · airport→Camps Bay ~R350–500 (~$20–30) by Uber/transfer
Entry (US): Visa-free 90 days for US tourists; passport must have ≥30 days' validity beyond departure + 2 blank pages; minors need a full unabridged birth certificate. No vaccines required (yellow-fever cert only if arriving from an endemic country).
The weak rand makes dining, wine and villas excellent value; long-haul airfare is the big line item. Book lodging with power backup.
