Weather
~300in of snow/yr on the mountains (town itself gets far less, ~175in) of dry Colorado powder; Jan–Feb deepest & coldest (highs low-30s°F). Summers mild & sunny, highs low-to-mid-70s°F with Jul–Aug afternoon monsoon storms. Base town sits at ~7,900 ft. Highs 33–74°F. Rain: low; ~25in annual precip, winter falls as snow; brief Jul–Aug afternoon thunderstorms.
Getting there & entry
ASE (Aspen/Pitkin County Airport) — nonstop (seasonal/regional) (Regional + winter-seasonal only — nonstops to ASE from ~7–10 US metros (Denver, LA, SF, Chicago, Houston, DFW, Atlanta), heavily winter-weighted and notoriously pricey. ASE is a tiny, weather-fragile field: short single runway, daytime-only ops, frequent winter cancellations/diversions to Denver. Bigger alternatives: Eagle-Vail (EGE, ~70mi/90min) or Denver (DEN, ~200mi/3.5–4.5h drive).)
Transfer: ~6mi from ASE (minutes); but from DEN it's a 3.5–4.5h drive (the Independence Pass shortcut is closed in winter) by taxi/shuttle from ASE; shared shuttle or drive from DEN/EGE · from ASE ~$20–40; Epic Mountain Express from DEN ~$79–139
Entry (US): domestic — none (REAL ID for domestic flights)
Ground is very pricey (one of the most expensive US ski towns) and ASE airfare runs high for a small field — flying into DEN + shuttle is cheaper but costs a half-day. All-in a premium trip; Christmas week rates run 2–3× shoulder.
